Whaler. Married Catherine (Katarina) Ikimapu/Hikimapu at Nelson (1845). Granted land in Tory Channel, Queen Charlotte Sound in 1864. Died 28 Sep 1880 in Queen Charlotte Sound, at 74 years of age. Born in 1806 in Sydney, but was said to have been from County Cork, Ireland. He first landed in Taranaki in the 1820s, and was among the group of Pakeha, including Dicky Barrett and John Love, who assisted the local Ngamotu people when Otaka Pa was attacked by Waikato tribes. Maori name was Te Puponga.
