Kai-iwi Yeomanry Cavalry Volunteers

Group of settlers from Wanganui formed this group when Wanganui came under military threat from Ngati Ruanui leader Titokowaru. John Bryce was commissioned as lieutenant. (Information from `The Dictionary of New Zealand Biography, Volume 2, 1870-1900', B44, page 61.)
