Mentions learning to play the piano, and life as a boarder at Nelson Girls College. Comments on doing an arts degree at Auckland University College and having private piano lessons. Refers to fellow students including Martin Sullivan, Margot Milner, Blackwood Paul and the literary set. Mentions she would have liked to pursue an academic career but there were no post-graduate awards available to women and she had got engaged.
