Description: After George French Angas' work, the lower half of Plate 53 in his "The New Zealanders illustrated" (London, 1847). Angas copied a drawing by Joseph Jenner Merrett. Shows a group of Maori performing a haka, with raised patu or taiaha, in front of the pa at Ohinemutu. Canoes are pulled up at the left foreground. Roofs of whare and pataka are visible over the wooden palisades of the pa. Probably used as an illustration for lecture tours. See description in: Working Men's Educational Union.
