In 1937 the name of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers changed to the New Zealand Institution of Engineers. On 4 February 1982 name changed to the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand. Current name was preceded by Engineering New Zealand from 2017 to 2018.
