Description: Shows an outrigger canoe with triangular sail, and five people aboard. They are passing the waterfront of an island on which a group of dwellings is shown among palm trees and vegetation. Plate 147 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. In the French edition, Danvin is inscribed as the copyist and Monin as the engraver. Plate XIV of the Isles Sandwich section of Choris' "Voyage pittoreque autour du monde" (1822). Description: Shows a double-hulled war canoe in the foreground, with a figure in a tall white-feathered headdress at the left end, and about ten men sitting on the boat's platform. In the right background are two other boats of the same design, flying small square flags tied to the high stern ends. Plate 148 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. In the French edition, Danvin is inscribed as the copyist and Monin as the engraver. Hodges made several versions of this scene (See Joppien and Smith's "The art of Captain Cook's voyages" (1985), vol 2, page 213. This version seems to be based on Woollett's engraving in Cook (17770, vol. I, plate LXI (facing page 342). Description: Shows a family of four sitting in the interior of a room with arched wooden beams. The ends of the floor plan appear to be rounded, and the left side of the house has wide openings. The man sits with a fan; the woman has two children beside her, and is working at a roll of matting. According to Domeny de Rienzi, this is the family related to the chief Tahofa. "We found there a small group of Tahofa's family with the chief's wife, mother of the male child adopted by the tamaha. This child, three and a half years old, blessed with a charming face, played beside his mother ..." Plate 192 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. In the French edition, Danvin is inscribed as the copyist, and Monin as the engraver. The Italian edition has "Marco Juliano inc." beneath the image. Description: Shows a thatched hut, visible behind a group of four men, three of them sitting. Notable on two of those sitting, and on the standing man are the dotted tattoo patterns on legs and arms. The standing man holds gourds or coconuts. In the right foreground, chickens peck the ground for food. In the right background are two additional figures and a hut, and in the left background, a man in a European jacket walks by. There are palm trees behind the huts. Plate 98 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. French edition (1835-36), has same plate and has the additional information that Danvin was the copyist.Monin engraved the French version, but the engraver for the Italian version is not given (it may also have been Monin). PLate 28 in F P Litke's "Voyage autour du monde 1826-29" (1835-36), where it is attributed to Postels.
