Description: A view of several palaeontologists extracting fossil remains from a large piece of rock in the quarry at Whiteman's Green in the Tilgate forest. Several layers of strata have been exposed and can be seen behind where the men are working, together with a shovel and long poles. In the middle distance two men are standing and talking to each other. In the top lefthand corner in the distance is a town and a church steeple. In the distance at surface level a man can be seen pushing a wheel barrow across a bridge formed from a wooden plank held in position by a trestle.
