Description: Shows the trunk and lower branches of a tree beside the water (at left). Several men are stretching a rope around part of the base. Plate 195 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. In the French edition, Danvin is inscribed as the copyist, and Cholet as the engraver. Description: Shows a cleared area in which stands a large high table on nine legs. In the foreground, inserted in the ground at crooked angles, are long wooden tablets, toothed at the tops. Plate 157 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. In the French edition, Danvin is inscribed as the copyist, and Chollet as the engraver. The scene has similar elements to those in John Webber's 1777 work, "A human sacrifice at Otaheite", which took place on 1 September 1777. According to Beaglehole, the place of action, which Cook identified as "the great Morai at Attahouroo" is Utuaimahurau. Description: Shows two figures seated in the right foreground, amongst trees, surrounding a clearing, with the fenced enclosure of the tomb in the background. Within the fence are two huts. The trees in the enclosure are identified in Domeny de Rienzi (French edition, volume 2, page 306) as baringtonias and casuarinas. Probably based on the 1822 drawing by Robert James Elliot (at A-282-034). Plate 159 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. In the French edition, Danvin is inscribed as the copyist, and Chollet as the engraver. Description: Shows a view based roughly on Byrne's drawing from Hodges' original. Shows two figures in the right foreground sitting in front of a cleared space, behind which is a raised cemetery of buildings with thatched roofs. To the left is a house with several women sitting inside it. There is a large tree in the left foreground. Plate 193 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. In the French edition, Danvin is inscribed as the copyist, and Cholet [sic] as the engraver. Byrne's engraving from a lost picture by Hodges, is given the title "Afia-too-ca, a burying place in the Isle of Amsterdam" by Joppien and Smith in "The art of Captain Cook's voyages", volume 2, page 192. Description: Shows a stone temple, graduated in height from a tall centre, either roofless or with its roof overgrown, and with a monolithic stone at its zenith. Figures in native costume sit at the right foreground, and two figures stand at the base of the steps leading into the temple. The background shows the encroaching jungle and palm trees. Likely to be one of the temples on the Prambanan Plain east of Yogyakarta, Java. Plate 37 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. French edition (1835-36), has same plate and has the additional information that Danvin was the copyist, and Chollet the engraver of this plate. Dumont d'Urville's "Voyage pittoresque autour du monde" (1834-35) reproduces an earlier form of this image, with the temple with only the central portion present. Description: Shows two roofed shelters without walls, and on the other side of them, a raised roofed structure, perhaps a storehouse. In the right foreground is a group of women and one man kneeling. One of the women has a tall drum between her legs, and some of the women are gesturing as if in dance. In the left background, is a view of the sea and a sailboat. Plate 109 in Domeny de Rienzi's book. French edition (1835-36), has same plate and has the additional information that Danvin was the copyist. Chollet engraved the French version, but the engraver for the Italian version is not given (it may also have been Chollet). Description: Shows several workers, concentrating on one in the centre foreground, dressed only in a loin-cloth, using a pole to cultivate among plants in a sugar plantation. A little further off to the left, two workers work among the canes. In the middle distance at right, one worker of a group of three shoulders a bundle of canes. There are two European-style dwellings behind. These may be the buildings of the sugarworks of Mr Bicknell, noted in the French text (vol. 2, page 307) as having established a sugarworks on Ta-One point. Plate 160 in Domeny de Rienzi's book.
