A European man is standing in front of the fence and a Tahitian man is seated beside him, gesturing towards the morai. This marae or morai was first described by James Cook in 1769, as being 130 x 80 feet and 40 feet high, made of coral blocks. The picture is based on an illustration in: Wilson, James.
