Description: 1874 medal is brass suspended from purple ribbon, showing dividers, star and square rule with inset stones. 1906 medal is brass suspended from pale blue ribbon; inscription at top reads Aorangi Lodge no. 2300, and below is an arrangement of set square, long-handled fans, and the motto "Ex tenebris lux". Frank Grady was probably the jeweller of the 1906 medal. Container has inscription insde lid: Frank Grady Masonic Jeweller, Wellington, N.Z. Inscriptions: Verso - (1874 medal): Presented to Bro. C. P. Powles by the Brethren of Lodge Waterloo 463, S.C., Wellington, New Zealand 6th October 1874.; Verso - (1906 medal): To Bro. C.P. Powles, P.M., 4.12.06 / as a token of esteem from the Brethren. Source of descriptive information - date 1897 for the portrait of Barraud by James Nairn supplied by library client. Also suggested that this may have been a retrospective gathering of men associated with the transition of the Fine Arts Association of New Zealand to the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in 1889.
