Description: Interview with Bert Bailey. Mentions his career in Railways from 1928 as a cadet to eventually becoming Secretary to the Appeal Board. Talks about his time working in the Clerk's Office 1945-1964, appointed Records Clerk in 1945, then Clerk of Journals and Records and Second Clerk-Assistant in 1954 taking over from Les Middleton. Refers to others who came through from the Railways Appeal Board such as Neil Dollimore, Fred Manderson and Allan Sutherland. Mentions his lack of legal qualifications and how this effected his career. Discusses the abolition of the Legalative Council in 1950. Describes his appointment as Manager of Bellamy's in 1964. Mentions previous managers and earlier bad management practices which he resolved. Talks about his experience of managing Bellamy's in detail. In the lower right scene one MP is reporting to another that Muldoon has called an early election and the other MP responds by saying he hopes to lose his seat. Description: Shows New Zealand Prime minister, David Lange, and another man eating sumptuous dinners in Bellamy's, the parliamentary restaurant. Outside the window is a furious crowd demonstrating about food prices. David Lange, oblivious to the feeling of the crowd tells them to eat sweets and ice-cream. Refers to food price increases brought about by GST. There is also a reference to the famous anecdote of the French Revolution when Marie Antoinette told the starving masses to eat cake since they were complaining of lack of bread.
