McAllister, James, 1905-1976

McAllister, Jim, 1905-1976

Son of James McAllister, Stratford photographer, and Helen Frederika Coombridge. Born 28 February 1905. (Date from Ian McAllister (brother). See also "Old Taranaki and its mountain" by Campbell McAllister (Millwood, 1976)). A comparison of the photograph in this book with that on an election pamphlet of 1954 (Eph-A-NZ-NATIONAL-1954) appears to show that this is the same James McAllister who stood as a National Party candidate for Waitakere in 1954, when he was headmaster at Laingholm School, Waitakere. He had completed a BA Degree in 1946.
