Pāpāhia, Wi Tana, -1873?, Pāpāhia, Witana, -1873?

Wiremu (Wī) Tana Pāpāhia. Chief of Te Rarawa who lived in Hokianga. Son of Pāpāhia and his wife Te Koiuru. Signed the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 with his father. They probably signed in the Bay of Islands. According to William Stones, Wī Tana Pāpāhia and his father signed on 6 February at the Mission House in Mangungu. He supported the treaty, and escorted the official party to Hokianga on 12 February 1840. Wī Tana Pāpāhia was one of the Te Rarawa chiefs who signed a peace treaty between Ngāpuhi and Te Rarawa on 13 June 1868. In 1870 he was said to be one of the leading chiefs of Te Rarawa. Seriously ill in Oct 1873 and was not expected to live. Pāpāhia was a correspondent to John White.
