Paeroa was the daughter of the Ngati Toa chief Tatana Te Whataupoko, who lived at Poroutawhao near Levin. She was arranged in marriage to Peneamine (Ben) Wineera, the eldest son of Haana and Wi Neera Te Kanae. Their marriage was the first ceremonial engagement celebrated in the newly opened meeting house Toa Rangatira in 1901. Paeroa was an acknowledged expert at waiata and playing the koauau. Lived at Levin and Porirua, born into the Ngati Huia, a sub-tribe of Ngati Toa. (See Faces from the past / K Zambucka, 1971)
