Duncan, Charles, -1908

Gardener. Native of North Scotland, who had been working at Kew Gardens, London when he decided to emigrate to New Zealand. Arrived at Wellington on 'Phoebe Dunbar' in 1850. Shortly afterwards he went to the Ballarat goldfields. On his return he married Catherine Mitchell and lived at Golder's Hill in Wellington until 1862 when they moved to Tawa Flat. Charles developed his section as a nursery, naming it Linden Vale Nurseries. For further family details see `Tawa Flat and the Old Porirua Road' by A H Carman, p 118.
