Description: The papers cover the whole of McIntosh's professional life from his involvement with the development of a National library service in the 1930s while working at the General Assembly Library through his subsequent career in the Prime Minister's Department and as Secretary of External Affairs. They deal extensively with New Zealand's foreign policy as well as with defence and trade issues. Arrangement: The original order of the papers has been retained. The file numbers have been incorporated in the title of individual folders to enable detailed inventories and indexes supplied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to be used. Served as Permanent Head of Prime Minister's Department, 1943-1966 and Secretary for External Affairs, 1943-1966 Quantity: 481 folder(s). 7.80 Linear Metres. Provenance: These papers were previously held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ministry historian, Malcolm Templeton arranged for the deposit to the Library in 1999. A further 12 folders were recieved from Mr Templeton in 2002.
