Anglican church, Auckland Diocese. Only surviving stone church from the Selwyn period. Stones used for building were taken from Mangere Mountain.

Description: Shows St James' Church, Mangere church (a lava stone construction, begun in 1857) on the top of a rise in the middle distance, with a body of water in the right foreground. There is a rowing boat pulled up on the beach, and the gateway to a farm on the left. Artist attributed by inscription inside front cover. Artist assumed to be Dr Henry Thomas Spratt, rather than his son Henry Howell Spratt. See Cyclopedia of New Zealand, Volume 1, Wellington, page 884.
