Evans, Malcolm Paul, 1945- :"ICH bin ein Hamburger!". 21 June 2013

Date: 2013

From: Evans, Malcolm Paul, 1945- :Digital cartoons

By: Press (Christchurch, N.Z.)

Reference: DCDL-0025261

Description: President Obama in a peroration before the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, declares that he is a hamburger ('Ich bin ein Hamburger!'). The cartoonist's comment is 'You want fries with that?' In June 2013 President Obama visited Berlin after attending the G8 Summit in Northern Ireland. On 19 June he spoke at the Brandenburg Gate. The speech, intended to be a highlight of the visit, was a disaster. The teleprompt failed, he repeated lines, his voice wavered, he looked confused, the crowd's response was tepid, and he was clearly sweating. It was among the worst public performances of his presidency. It brought to mind President Kennedy's faux pas during his speech in West Berlin in 1963 when, according to urban legend, he declared that he was a jam donut (ein Berliner). Colour and black and white versions available Other Titles - Evans, Malcolm Paul, 1945-:"Established in a conservation estate...likely to harm our unique flora and fauna..." 31 May 2013 Quantity: 2 digital cartoon(s).
