Description: The papers collected by Dorothy Strauch are in two parts. The first relates to the mission of Christoph Dierks at Waitotara and includes copies of letters he and other Lutheran missionaries wrote back to Missionsanstalt Hermannsburg in Germany. This correspondence is in German. The second part of the collection comprises printed material, mainly serials, gathered by Dorothy Strauch in her capacity as archivist for St Martin's Lutheran Church, Marton. Missionsanstalt Hermannsburg dispached Christoph Dierks, Hartwig Dierks, Heinrich Loose and Wilhelm Kowert to New Zealand to serve as missionaries. Christoph Dierks, Dorothy Strauch's grandfather, conducted a mission to the Maori at Waitotara, 1878-1898. Quantity: 20 folder(s). 7 volume(s). 0.53 Linear Metres. Most of the images show scenes inside the church and hall during the service. They include readings by Pastor Mark Whitfield and others, singing, communion and presentations. Other images show the Pastor and congregation outside the church immediately after the service.
