However the handwriting and drawing style, the date and the type of paper used exactly match those located at A-262-006/021 by Frederick W. Frankland and they were reattributed in 1997. Description: Photograph album of New Zealand scenes The first sequence contains views of the road from Christchurch to the West Coast, taken by Daniel Mundy in February 1868. Another group are of further scenes in the South Island taken by the Burton Brothers around the Dunedin area. There are several views of Scotland and England, including one of the Brendon Hill Incline, an iron-mining area in Exmoor, and a view of the Larkworthy family castle in Aberdeenshire (name of the castle not clear in album). Later views in the album are taken by unidentified photographers, and include scenes of the Franz Josef Glacier, with the Waiho River; sluicing for gold at Black Gully; a tubular flume at Donnellys Creek; the Totara Ferry; viaduct at Jones' Creek; bush at Donoghues; and views of Ross and Hokitika. Description: One album of photographs and postcards, probably compiled by Elizabeth Porteous of the NZANZ (New Zealand Army Nursing Service) who was awarded the ARRC (Associate Royal Red Cross). These are mainly postcards of her travels in England and Scotland during World War I. Also contains some images related to nursing work. The photographs relating to military nursing work include group portraits of patients and staff at a military hospital, two taken during Christmas celebrations. There are also two photographs of an interior of a large industrial building being used as a dormitory, probably to house soldiers. Subjects and locations are all unidentified. Postcards include: Views of Edinburgh, Scotland, include Edinburgh Castle, Craigmillar Castle, The Abbey Strand, St Giles Cathedral, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Arthur's Seat, Queen Margaret's Chapel, and the 'audience room' at the former residence of John Knox. Views of Bath, Somerset, England, include Bath Abbey, the Grand Pump Room Hotel, and Roman colonnades. Views of Brockenhurst, Hampshire, England, the location of No 1 New Zealand General Hospital, and including views of the Rose and Crown Hotel. Views of Christchurch, Dorset, include the Christchurch Priory Church, Constable's Ruin (Constable's House), Highcliffe Castle, and a thatched cottage at Wick Ferry. Description: Photographs taken in the district around Loughton (Essex, England), including wedding scenes of the marriage of Thomas Berry Cusack Smith and Winifred (nee Maitland) in 1896, and later, scenes with their young daughter Maia Wilhemina Cusack Smith. The latter part of the album includes images of life and events in colonial Samoa during the time T B Cusack Smith was posted there as British consul, with views of the consulate, general views of Samoa, and portraits of several Samoan dignitaries. Several scenes show various performers at the British consulate in a farce by John Maddison Morton. As well, one photograph shows the unveiling of a statue of Queen Victoria at the Legislative Council Buildings in Pietermaritzburg (South Africa) in July 1890. At the end of the album there are a number of images of Cambridge and Dresden, circa 1889. Many of the photographs were taken by Thomas Berry Cusack Smith, but some are identified as being taken by professional photographer C C Cutchey (Loughton), and by friends in Samoa, H W Bowker, and Colonel W L Samuells.
