Hazelwood, J A, and Company Ltd

Located in Lower Hutt. Original Hazelwood's store started by J A Hazelwood's stepmother circa 1887 and taken over by J A Hazelwood in 1893. Hazelwood's stood approximately on the site of the present Hazelwood building in Main Road. The company waas bought by T N Gibbs in 1944. In the late 1950s and 1960s the store expanded into a major department store. In the 1980s several departments were sold, and the stock of the furniture department and the Fisher and OPaykel franchise were bought by Colin Gbbs who leased part of the building as Hazelwoods Home Traders, and later Hazelwoods Furntiure Court. Hazelwoods ceased trading in 2009.
