Bridgman, George Frederick Thomas, 1897?-1966

Commercial artist, born in London, and studied art at the London Polytechnic. He came to New Zealand in the mid-1920s and in 1927 joined the staff of Filmcraft as an artist. Joined the Government Film and Publicity Studios in 1936, and subsequently became Art Director of the National Publicity Studios, until his retirement. He was responsible for many of the working models in the 1940 Centennial Exhibition, and in association with overseas designers, helped in the layout of many of the other courts. He was also responsible for the New Zealand courts in the Sydney and Singapore exhibitions, as well as for many Government courts in exhibitions in London. He was an active member of the Emergency precautions Scheme during the Second World War. Brother of Herbert Bridgman. Date of birth taken from age at time of death (according to BDM index). It is stated to be designed by the National Publicity Studios, of which George Bridgman was the art director. This is the basis on which Hamish Thompson attributes the artist in "Paste up" (2003).
