This album of unidentified photographic prints relates to John Buchanan (1819-1892) and the Buchanan family of Elsthorpe estate, Napier. Contains studio portraits of John Buchanan and various family members as adults and as children taken during the family's residence in Sydney, Australia, and in New Zealand. Taken by photographers Wrigglesworth and Binns, Wellington, John Hubert Newman, Sydney, Samuel Carnell, Napier, Creelman and Co, Burlington Galleries, Sydney, Holm and Co, Sydney, The Crown Studios, Sydney, Herrmann, Wellington, J E and H Cobb, Napier, The Ideal Portrait Company, Sydney, F W Mason, Napier, and other unidentified photographer(s) circa 1850s to 1890s. - Album also contains 3 loose colour laser print copies of studio portraits of John Buchanan and young men in military uniforms. -Includes portraits of women wearing Victorian jewellery. One woman wears furs and feather hat. Some children are shown in christening gowns and sailor suits, and with pet dog or toys. Description: Two cabinet cards of Sir William Manning one taken on the occasion of his 80th birthday on June 20th 1891 and the other on the occasion of the 50th anniversary on November 20th 1882 of this call to the English Bar. Taken by Freeman & Co and J Hubert Newman respectively. Three carte de visite of Lady Manning and Edith and Emily Manning taken full length and wearing crinolines.
