Description: Shows a group of three men. In the first scene one of them looks a bit battered and has a broom through his head. He makes a comment about the angry woman who is standing behind them on a balcony. The next scene shows the three of them sitting down at a table drinking cups of tea and making comments about the same angry woman who is peering over their table. In the third scene, the older, scruffy man walks past a sign about keeping England tidy and in the final scene the three of them are walking down the street past the local shops. Description: Includes lists and illustrations of merchandise available, including axes, tool baskets, bits, braces, clamps, chisels, files, gimlets, irons, kerosene lamps, planes, spokeshaves, squares, tapes, carving tools, vices, gardening tools, cutlery, razors, varnishes and stains, hinges, handles, potato chip cutters, pulleys, mangles, mouse-traps, hiar brushes, household brushes, enamel ware and saucepans. Previously thought to date from around 1910, and given reference number Eph-B-TOOLS-1910-01. Date now assumed to be between 1902 and 1907 for two reasons: (1) Dated prior to 1907, when the "Colony", described this in the catalogue, became a Dominion; (2) The Stanley Adjustable Rabbet planes model numbers 92, 93, 94 (See the unindexed supplement page 107) are reported to have been first manufactured in 1902 (Researcher J Harris, October 2012, refers to John Walter's "Antique & collectible Stanley tools; a guide to identity and value", 2nd edition 1996, pages 420-421. Description: Shows Prime Minister, David Lange, in his role of Education Minister, dressed in academic gown and morter board, and scratching his head in confusion as he sits at a desk in the office of the Minister of Education and contemplates the 'out-dated system' that was initiated by the 1877 Education Act. All around the Prime Minister are piles of old folders and files. On the wall hangs a walking stick with a label attached that reads 'Do not use, R. Marshall'. A cleaner with the words 'Education Dept.' printed on his shirt comes to the door holding a huge broom labelled 'Education Reform Proposals' which he offers to David Lange suggesting that he will need 'a new broom'. Refers to the education reforms that began in 1987 when David Lange replaced Russell Marshall as Minister of Education. The plan was to provide a publicly-funded, self-managed education system where authority and delivery was decentralized to the local level, with well-defined accountability systems.
