Inscriptions: Album page - centre - (On flag held by knight on title page): Denison Cochran's / Sketck[sic] Book / Assiduites incredibiles praestat (He performs incredible feats of application). Described in the transcript as `Some short notes made during a voyage from Gravesend to Wellington, New Zealand. By Messrs G.B., C.R. & F.B. with some valuable additions by D.C. July 8th to Novr 3rd continued by G.B.'. Comments on the sighting of a comet [possibly Comet Klinkerfues] on 13 Sep 1853; reference to a shipboard publication "The John Taylor Miscellany No 1" The journal is preceded by letters to Beaven from Denison Cochrane relating to the projected voyage Quantity: 1 volume(s) (57 pages). Description: Compries a handwritten testimonial addressed to " J M Cawkitt Esq, captain of the 'John Taylor" and signed by "...your friends and passengers of the John Taylor". Also includes handwritten note about the ship 'John Taylor' and a photocopy of a newspaper cutting from the Lyttelton times, 22 Oct 1853, which details the short passenger list for the John Taylor and a transcription of Cawkitt's testimonial. One signature in the passenger list may be read as 'R N Briggs' or 'R N Biggs". Text in photocopy of the Lyttelton Times article lists a passenger as 'Biggs" [passenger is possibly Reginald Newton Biggs (Major), 1830-1868], Cawkitt was the Captain of the `John Taylor' Quantity: 1 folder(s) (3 pages on 1 leaf). 0.01 Linear Metres.
