Description: Covers his childhood in Napier, including memories of Te Kooti and William Colenso; employment as a horse-driver; work on Greenmeadows Fruit Farm; coachdriver at Manaia, then in Dannevirke; service with 4th Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade on Western Front and convalescence at Brockenhurst and Hornchurch Hospitals in England. Mention of James Ellis' escape following his murder of Leonard Collinson, and capture by police.
