Bunny, Henry, 1822-1891

English solicitor, came to Wellington in 1853. Bought land in Rangitikei and the Wairarapa, represented Wairarapa in Parliament 1865-1881, for the Liberals. Held a major's commission in the militia and commanded the Wairarapa volunteer district. Married twice: First married Catherine Baker, a sister of the Rev. Arthur Baker, and then to Eliza (Bessie) Thorne, of Yorkshire, in 1867. His life insurance policy gives his date of birth as 7 Oct 1822. See DNZB / Scholefield (Vol 1, p120-121)

Description: Cadastral map with topographical details, showing the Hutt River, upstream of Melling, Lower Hutt, southwards past the new bridge to the Aglionby Arms, music hall and Valentine's Hall. Shows a section of a road described as 'the main road from the Wairarapa to Wellington', as well as land purchased by the government for protection purposes, river banks, shingle banks, reclaimed land and section numbers no. 24-5 and 28-9. Hotels, stables, the Oddfellow's hall, Catholic chapel, and the bridge toll house are sited.
