Pacifist and teacher. Page (generally known as Fred). Son of Samuel Page and Sarah Page (née Saunders). Brother of Robert (aka Robin) was born and educated in Christchurch at Christchurch Boys' High School and Canterbury University College (graduated MA). The family had strong socialist and religious beliefs; his brother was imprisoned as a conscientious objector during World War I and Page was secretary of the No More War Movement in the 1920s. He became an assistant teacher at Christchurch Boys' High School but lost his job when he refused to sign the oath of allegiance, without amendment. Page left New Zealand on SS Herminius in Feb 1930 to travel and further his peace advocacy work in Europe; he died accidentally of carbon monoxide poisoning in Paris, 7 Jul 1930. See Ellen and Ann Saunders' biographical study on him "He's for the morning: his journal, also some recollections of his life" (Christchurch: A Wildey, 1939).
