English. Volunteer missionary and labourer travelled with Rev John Williams on the 'Camden' to the New Hebrides in October 1839. Murdered by local people on Erromanga, New Hebrides on 20 November 1839.

Description: Folder comprises an original letter from Harris written in Tahiti to Mr and Mrs H Waters (and Miss Butler), 1839. The letter was written less than ten weeks before Harris was killed by local people in Eromanga, New Hebrides. In the letter Harris discusses his travels in the South Pacific, The Gospel, missionary work, and the local languages he has been studing. Also included is a typed transcript of this correspondence which accompanied the original letter at auction, 2009.
