From Otago. Son of Frances Wakefield and Margaret Holmes. Sergeant with the Field Artillery, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, during World War I. Holmes was wounded at the Battle of the Somme and later convalesced in England. Serial Number: 2/613. Father of Sir Frank Holmes.
