Walden-Mills, William Henry, 1909-1997

Walden-Mills, Bill, 1909-1997

Conductor, teacher and military musician. Born Farnborough, Hampshire, and was an Army bandsman at Aldershot, then a music advisor in Norwich until he emigrated to New Zealand in 1953. Taught at King Edward Technical College, and was conductor of the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra. Moved to Wellington in 1959 to become national music advisor in the Department of Education. Was also conductor of the Wellington Chamber Orchestra, and was one of the founding selectors and assistant conductor for the National Youth Orchestra. Retired in 1974, and died in Wellington on 15 July 1997.
