Description: Album of photographs, some prints, some contacts from 35mm film, taken by Professor John Salmon in Wellington. Most of the images describe his use of different camera lenses and filters. Many of the scenes are taken from Professor Salmon's window at Victoria University of Wellington, showing different moods in different weather patterns. They include early morning, afternoon, and night views, northerly wind and southerly wind cloud patterns, including a southerly storm. He also has a large number of images of Wellington Harbour and wharves, again taken in different lights, showing ships, reflections and buildings. Other sequences show views of the Hutt Valley, Silverstream, and Glenmore Street in Wellington, many taken on misty early mornings. The last scenes are coloured photographs showing some of the decorations erected for the Royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II, in January 1954. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). A number of sequences show a Yorkshire (?) terrier named Buff. David Luke lived at 84 Bolton Street for many years, and a number of photographs are taken inside the house and in the garden. Description: Three images taken by Leslie Hinge, taken probably ca 1900s and at some time between 1925 and Hinge's death in 1942. The prints were originally loose in two photo albums (see ref PA1-o-1911 and PA1-o-1912). The images show: - One of the `Twin' geysers at Wairakei Valley near Taupo. - Woman seated on the monument to commemorate the heroism of Arthur Ambury, with Mt Taranaki in the background. - Aerial view of the passenger ship Tamahine leaving Tory Channel for Cook Strait. Other - An image very similar to that found here of Mt Taranaki was published in `New Zealand Railways magazine' (1 June 1939, p 55), credited as a Railways publicity photograph. This is taken frim the boat deck of the Awatea, the difference in size of the two ships is easily seen. 15/11/38 [probably the date of publication in the Evening Post newspaper] The steamship Tamahine was a Cook Strait ferry of 1989 tons.
