The woman, wearing a broad-brimmed sunhat, is Elespie Prior, with her youngest daughter on her knee. The original painting, an oil, shows the artist's garden at Waikanae. Description: A view of Lake Wakatipu on a calm day, with a snow-laden Mount Earnslaw rising in the distance, shrouded in some low cloud. In the foreground are three horesemen, their horses and a dog. One man sits astride his horse; the second sits on a rock beside his horse; and the third man bends to make a fire. The dog lies resting on its side. A tiny train of steam indicates a steam boat on the lake in the distance The Library also holds two copies of a colour photolithograph of the same scene, at C-117-019, from International Art Centre in 1982. Description: Manuscripts related to a land sale in New Zealand between Jules Augusten Duvauchelle and Henry Chater, both from Kororāreka (Russell), Bay of Islands, in 1840. Comprises: - Deed, dated 20 June 1840. - Sales document, 'Victoria Allotment 4 Section C' signed by James Busby, witnessed by Gilbert Mair and one other. - Receipt for 25 pounds and 12 shillings, dated Kororareka, 29 April 1840. - Envelope addressed to Henry Chater. Indenture makes reference to sale of parcel of land at Kororareka bounded by land owned by John Scott and Jules Augusten Duvauchelle, in an area also known as Aputa or "Aputada", originally sold by Ahongi Ahoki and Atoko, chiefs of "Aputada" to Benjamin Evans Turner on 6 November 1838, and onsold by Turner to Duvauchelle on 13 December 1839.
