Painter and engraver, born in London. Pupil of Ashley. Engraved portraits, religious and historic subjects and landscapes. Received a gold medal in 1772 for his oil: "Coriolanus leaving his family".

Description: A scene in Tahiti, in 1777, with two men and two women dancing before a hut, spectators on either side. Three drummers are in the background under the shelter of the hut, with a fourth person clapping the rhythm. The dancers appear to be standing on a large woven mat.
