Drey, Anne Estelle, 1879-1959

Magazine illustrator and artist. Born in Conchohocken near Philadelphia. She moved to Paris in 1906 and was elected to exhibit at the Salon d'Automne in 1910. She married O R Drey in 1913 and moved to London. She became acquainted with John Middleton Murry, contributing regularly to `Rhythm' and became one of Katherine Mansfield's closest friends. She painted Mansfield's portrait in 1918, now in the Museum of New Zealand. Mansfield bequeathed her Chinese silk shawl to Anne Estelle Rice, who later donated it to the Library.
