Describes father's shoe shop in Tunbridge Wells, schooling, nursing training at Guy's Hospital for 18 months, course in Chiropody, and marriage by special licence in St Giles Church to Gerald Fowler `one hour after World War II was declared'. Describes birth of first son, David, who was born to the sounds of the guns at Dunkirk. Refers to Dr Lilian Crosskerry, a homeopathic doctor. Describes experience of husband's return from war. Mentions his work on Leptospirosis and on Trachoma in Lister Institute, London. Recalls refugee work: Spanish Civil War, Council for Refugees, German Jews, involvement in Communist League, Labour League of Youth and Peace Pledge [Union].
