Ngāti Whakaue and Tūhourangi, singer. Born at Ngāpuna, Rotorua on 30 December 1907, the daughter of Riripeta Te Opehōia Eparaima and Hato Mae Ngāmahirau and grew up in Whakarewarewa. Married twice, her second husband Pāhau Rāponi served in the 28th Māori Battalion and died as a prisoner of war in Germany in 1942. Known as the "Māori Nightingale" for the quality of her voice. She and Deane Waretini were recorded by Parlophone Records' Australian branch singing together in Rotorua, 1927 for the Duke and Duchess of York during their Royal Visit These were the first local commercial music recordings, released on 78 rpm. She died aged 45 at Rotorua on 8 December 1953 and was buried at Whakarewarewa among her Tūhourangi people.
