Bradey, Frederick, 1833-1911 : Papers

Date: 1863-1898

By: Bradey, Frederick, 1833-1911

Reference: MS-Papers-1448

Description: The papers reflect his widespread interests based on landholdings in the various areas of Porirua, Plimmerton, Pauatahhanui, Palmerston North, Bunnythorpe and Wellington itself, where he appears to have owned the site leased by Kirkcaldie & Co, among others. Their most useful reference is to individuals settled throughout the Pauatahanui area and to general community development in which Bradey was involved - school and library committees, local sports groups, the A & P Association, and on the larger scene the Wellington Education Board and the Wellington Harbour Board. As an influential local landholder, his support appears to have been constantly solicited by campaigning Wellington politicians. The papers span the period 1863-1898, although the items prior to 1883 are very slight Frederick Bradey emigrated to New Zealand with his father Francis Bradey in 1840 on the Adelaide and took up his own land at Pauatahanui in 1855 Quantity: 9 folder(s). Physical Description: Holographs, typescripts and printed matter Finding Aids: Paper inventory which was previously available in reading room was removed on 10 December 2014 as it contained no extra information. A copy is available in the staff backfile..
