Description: Photographs of Featherston Military Camp in the Wairarapa, taken circa 1916 by an unidentified photographer. Comprises scenes with soldiers and views of the camp grounds. 1. Five soldiers and their equipment pose informally in their semi-erected tent, which has square perimeter of stones laid around it. Two and possibly three hold the rank of sergeant. 2. A group of soldiers, armed and with slouch hats, pose informally, possibly during a miltary exercise. A sergeant to the right of the group appears to be in command. 3. A general view of the layout of Featherston Camp. There appears to be snow on the ground. 4. Seven soldiers in the camp hold a snowball fight after a heavy snowfall. 5. A soldier in a 'lemon squeezer' hat poses before two of the camp huts. There is snow on the ground. 6. A squad of soldiers drills before an officer. To the left of the squad is a telegraph pole. 7. A company with rifles on a march-past in the camp. 8. Troops line up at an outdoor canteen. 9. Soldiers marching with their equipment past the camp huts. Description: Ruth Graham recalls being brought up in large family on high country sheep station in Upper Rakaia Valley, Canterbury. Comments on the isolated environment. Went to private girls' boarding schools, starting at Selwyn House at the age of 8 years (1955-1958). Describes Selwyn House PNEU (Parents National Education Union) school, its colonial origins, size and curriculum. Continued secondary education at Craighead Diocesan School Timaru, (1959-1963). Majored in English at Canterbury University, then moved to Wellington to librarian training. Worked at Alexander Turnbull Library 1960-1972, married and took leave to travel 1971. Describes health problems. Talks about time spent at home with two children, involvement with Plunket, Play Centre and sport. Describes evolution of husband's company, DELTEC, from beginning to high international profile. Began working at Drama School library in 1980 as school was about to move to Vivian Street. Gives background to original library collected by Nola Miller. Mentions Roy Parsons book shop as major drama stockists in Wellington. In 1980 library joined Library Association.
