- Description
A photograph taken by George Henry Swan in 1862, which was the third in a nine-part panoramic photograph of Wellington's waterfront area. The warehouse known as Noah's Ark, owned by John Plimmer, is shown in the centre of the photograph. Barrett's Hotel is to the right, and other buildings are visible to the left and in the background. In the foreground, two unidentified men are holding shovels and standing next to stacked pieces of timber, likely working on the reclamation of Wellington Harbour.
This photograph has previously been exhibited at the Adam Art Gallery's exhibition 'Still looking: Peter McLeavey and the last photograph', 6 October - 20 December 2018. Information from the exhibition has informed the description of this item.
