Diary containing entries handwritten by Arnold John Heine relating to his participation in the New Zealand Geological Survey and Antarctic Expedition 1956-57. Front cover has "Tasman [Skelton or Skecton?]" written in felt pen [probably by Arnold Heine]. The inside front cover has the inscription "A J Heine, NZ Geological Survey, Lower Hutt, 2 February 1957, 4 March 1957, Antarctic Diary". Front cover also bears a sticker labelled "Typed 18/8/19 AH Ant diaries 1956-57 24/6/16" [probably written by Janice Heine] and a sticker labelled "2 Feb 57 4 March 57" in different handwriting.
Back cover flap contains a newspaper clipping about the death of Peter Denham by drowning while tramping, and two snippets of food packaging for "Cadbury Bournville Chocolate" and "Symbol expedition biscuits".
