Description

Diary containing entries handwritten by Janice Heine relating to her trips to Antarctica, from December 1981 to January 1982, probably relating to her research in penguin guano at Cape Bird. The inside front cover is annotated with personal and home addresses for Arnold Heine and Margaret Hardwicke [mother of Janice Heine]. A handwritten calendar with marked off dates of the expedition is pasted on the inside front cover.

Includes dated entries describing activities, including a visit by the Prime Minister Robert Muldoon and Sir Edmund Hillary on 20 January 1982.

17 pink post-it notes annotated with descriptions of milestones during the trip are stuck between pages. The end of the diary has notes on her camera, a bread recipe, lists of Antarctic Division personnel and "people who remember Arnold", and Gazetteer place names.
