Comprises collection of 58 open reel tape recordings, mostly made by Les Gruebner and many relating to the New Zealand music group The Fourmyula and its earlier incarnations, such as The In-sect. Open reels include:
- Live recordings of concerts around New Zealand
- Practice and demo recordings
- Copies of studio recordings and out-takes
- Off-air recordings of pop music broadcasts, including The Fourmyula shows and interviews, Simple Image (who featured ex-Fourmyula Ron Gascoigne), interview with Ringo Starr, and award shows
- Off-air recordings of other material such as rugby commentary and news clips
- Recordings made for The Fourmyula fan club
- Tape made by Pipp (another name for The Fourmyula) while based in the United Kingdom and sent to Les Gruebner as a birthday present, circa 1970
- Some dubs of published recordings.
Also some annotated boxes or inserts and a notebook containing detailed descriptions of and anecdotes about the contents of some tapes, The collection also includes six audiocassettes of later recordings, five relating to a reunion of The Fourmyula in 1999.
Part of the Archive of New Zealand Music.
Gruebner was bass player with earlier incarnations of the band that became the Fourmyula. After leaving in 1966, Gruebner continued to work closely with the Fourmyula in support roles.
