- Description
The No. 1 Devonport Troop, formed in 1908, was one of the first Boy Scout troops in NZ. The Devonport Sea Scouts Troup was formed in 1914, with 60 senior and 30 junior boys, and can rightfully claim to be the first in NZ. A 36 foot cutter was obtained, in which the boys won the sailing cutter event at the 1915 Auckland Anniversary Regatta. However the troop collapsed late in 1915 when the leaders were called up for service. In 1921 the Calliope Sea Scouts were formed. Another Sea Scout troop, the Vindictive troop, was formed at Bayswater in 1924.
