Description

Photograph of the Wellington Gas Company's Championship Eleven Cricket Team from the 1904-1905 season, taken by Hardie Shaw Studios, probably in 1905. The names of the team are printed on the bottom of the mount. Because the mount is broken the names of the men at the far right back row and the far right middle row are missing.

Extant names are:

Back row: J. North (Honorary Secretary), W Redgrave, A B Topp, A Hawthorne, R Burke, F A Laws;

Middle row: A Cates, F W Dredge, R G Howell (Captain), W J Stevens;

Front row: F Harris, B Waugh.

Name of photographer's studio, and names of players missing from the mount taken from description of the photograph held at PAColl-D-0722.

Provenance: The photograph was on the wall at the Wellington City Council Works Depot in Tory Street Wellington when Mr Williams worked there for the Welllington Gas Company in the 1980s. When the Works Depot was moved to Kilbirnie in the early 1990s, Mr Williams took the photograph to the new Depot, and when he left Enerco (formerly the Wellington Gas Company) in 1998 he took the photograph with him.

Additional description

Mount is damaged and some parts have been broken off. Top of mount that is detached has been retained and is in folder with photograph. Other broken parts are no longer extant.
