A sitting profile portrait of a Maori woman. She wears her hair in a bun, an ear adornment of ribbon with a tooth, and smokes a pipe. Her European dress is blue. She holds a book, and possibly a writing implement, in her right hand. Hutton describes her as: 'Ko Mihi - an oldish woman of the Waikato.'
