Copy prints of images used in Orbell's publication 'Birds of Aotearoa: A natural and cultural history, published by Reed Books in 2003. Some of the photographs are copy prints from New Zealand institutions.
The images include portraits of Māori people, landscapes, photographs of artworks of birds and bird-related activities, carvings, people making pōhā, and Māori musical instruments. Some images are of feather adornments or relate to bird bones used in Māori implements and objects.
Identified people in the portraits include Puhiwahine, Hohepa Tamamutu, Kapu Te Kohika, Te Kanapu Haerehuka, Te Wheoro, Paitini Wi Tapeka, and Hurae Puketapu.
