Description

Transparencies of concrete construction in New Zealand, taken by Geoffrey Thornton or Jocelyn Thornton. Each slide mount is annotated with the name or brief description, and/or the location, of the concrete structure. Dates and photographer name are sometimes annotated. Buildings/structures and locations annotated on the slide mounts include 'Mercerdale' at Puerua, farm cottage on Mercer Road at Puerua, library at Puhoi, St Mary's Church at Rangiora, St John's Church at Rangiora, blacksmith's shop at Swyncombe, former freezing works near Taihape, Bowmar House at Tara [Tara Road, Mangawhai], surge chamber of the power station at Tariki, wool/whaleboat shed at Te Kaha, district museum at Te Kauwhata, Timaru Milling Company (was Royal Flour Mills) at Timaru, wharf at Tolaga Bay, James family house at Tara Road, war memorial gates at former school at Tuapeka West, [interior] of "St Cletus & Remigius" at Waihou, Morton dam at Wainuiomata, command post at Waipapakauri, and Mercerdale cottage near Waitepeka.

Arrangement: Transparencies were arranged in a six-row, 43 slides per row, metal case. The case was not labelled; the order appears have begun as largely alphabetical by location, name of building/structure, or name of station/farm; however, arrangement becomes more disordered in the last two rows of the case.

Quantity: 24 colour original transparency/ies.

Physical Description: Colour transparencies in plastic slide mounts.

Processing information: Slides have been removed from container and put into archival pockets, following the original order, from left to right and top to bottom.
