Description

Collection comprises correspondence from Dame Margot Fonteyn to Alexandra Carr (married name Barratt), and her parents Frederick and Joan Carr, from the period 1950-1979. Also in the collection are books sent as presents with inscriptions to Alexandra Carr by Margot Fonteyn, including children's books, and `The Book of Dance' by Margot Fonteyn; a scrapbook, and printed programmes of the Sadler's Wells Ballet Company; a publication `Margot Fonteyn: Camera studies' by Gordon Anthony; and black and white photographic portraits of Margot Fonteyn.

Description: Scrapbook with loose and mounted newspaper clippings, photographs, typescripts, telegrams, printed bookmark, and holograph letter, from the period 1949-1951. The first newspaper clipping is from the 'Sarnia Canadian Observer', dated 24 November 1949, and features a photograph of Fonteyn with her four-year-old godchild, Alexandra. The holograph letter on "Margot Fonteyn" printed letterhead reads: "My dearest Alexandra, | Thank you so much for your lovely present. I am sending you a little pair of Jugoslavian shoes in exchange. I will [page 2] I hope to see you again in Toronto (Unfortunately I won't be visiting London, Ont[ario]. I hope you will be able to come in to Toronto as you did last time. | With much love | Margot".
