- Description
All images show people during a major demonstration against the Springbok Tour in Riddiford Street, Newtown, Wellington. A large number of protesters are standing in the road behind a banner which reads "Stop the Test", and another group of young men are perched along the roof of the Bank of New Zealand building (frame 1). Frames 2 & 3 show a man who has been hit (presumably by a police baton) and has a lump on his forehead, one friend checking his wound (frame 2) and two friends supporting him back across the road (frame 3). Ans Westra has focused on several Polynesian men who are watching proceedings (frames 3 to 7 & 10); and a group of friends are helping a protester who is sitting on the pavement with an injured leg (frames 8, 9 & 11). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
